My Christmas List

It’s that time of year for making my Christmas list.

Christmas, a time of giving praise and glory to God, our Father at the birth of His son, Jesus Christ. As I look forward to this time of celebration, I also reflect on this past year.

What a year it has been for me personally and for many in our nation and around the world. How about you?  Yet, out of adversity comes blessings if we keep our eyes, ears, and heart open to God’s purpose in our lives. This has been made clear to me time and time again particularly in recent years, and indeed this past year.  All I need to do is read and re-read my prayer journals to know this to be true.

#1:  Prayer

Thank you to those of you who continue to follow the Prayer Journals. I am blessed by your presence and input here. I pray you will continue to follow and be blessed by the power of prayer and keeping a daily prayer journal. My prayer is for new readers and writers to join us here at The Prayer Journals.

#2: Prayer

And it is my prayer journals that will be the basis of a writing project, a spiritual memoir I am beginning in the new year. I ask for your prayer as I begin this new spiritual journey.

#3: Prayer

As part of this spiritual journey, The Prayer Journals blog has taken on a new look, a new format and vision of helping you and I draw closer to God in our hearts and in our lives. In addition to this website, you can follow along on Twitter @PrayerPrompts. The Prayer Journals now has a Facebook page too! Click on this link to LIKE the page: The Prayer Journals. I ask for your prayer that God inspires the writing of this blog to fulfill His purpose for both of us.

Psalm 73:22-24

I was stupid, and I did not understand.
I was like a dumb animal in your presence.
Yet, I am always with you.
You hold on to my right hand.
With your advice you guide me,
and in the end you will take me to glory.

Matthew 28:20

Teach them to do everything I have commanded you.
“And remember that I am always with you until the end of time.”

#4: Prayer

Surely as God is with us, He is here in this world to bring blessings over the adversities that seem to confront us at every turn. My last request on my Christmas list is another prayer and that each day we end our prayer journal writing session reciting:

The Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Surpasses understanding

What’s on your Christmas list?

God is Here

God is Here

I begin again writing my way through the muck of shame under the gray of sadness. They say, whoever they are, that anger is fear turned inside out. If so, then shame must be hatred turned inward.

I stop.

Flipping through the catalog of faces of my memory, I bookmark the angels God gifted me.

Against the darkness, angels appearing so I could see God’s face and speaking words plainly that I could hear His voice. Angels who lifted the chainmaille of despair from me so I could feel God’s radiating peace.

Angels, who each have a name, I call out knowing God is here.

I take up my pen again writing my way through it.

Each whisper of kindness to myself reflects in the faces of angels bookmarked in my memory. How could I be ungrateful as I remember the faces of those who chose the work of God watering this soul helping me to thrive?

I write the word over, and over, and over saying it out loud.

they gather
faces of angels
in the mist

the burden
dissipating there
morning light

i write
listing each one’s name
angel faces

thriving words
reveal my purpose
God is here
